Diana Dart Harris

Having studied ballet, jazz, tap and modern techniques from an early age, Diana holds a B.A. in Dance Education from Goucher College in Baltimore and an M.S. in Exercise Physiology from Southern Connecticut State University.   While in Maryland, Diana studied under John-Pierre Bonnefoux, Violette

Verdy, John Clifford and Gary Masters; taught for the Peabody Conservatory and performed professionally with Choreographie Antique.  Upon returning to Connecticut, Diana directed her own dance program, Dance Arts, from 1991-2001, and created and implemented a dance curriculum for the Clinton Summer Schools program.  She was hired as a teacher by New Haven Ballet in 1992.  In 2004 she was named Principal of New Haven Ballet’s Shoreline Studio and occupied this position until 2011.  Diana served as the Interim Administrative Director of New Haven Ballet in 2010 and directed the school’s 2010 Nutcracker.  She has choreographed for Walsh Intermediate School, Westbrook High School, The Nutmeg Players, Inc. and Madison Public Schools.   Since 1987, Diana has been resident choreographer at The Morgan School in Clinton and co-directed their musicals for three years.  She has served as choreographer for Clinton Family Theatre since it was established in 1989 and has taught for Dance Academy of Connecticut, Dance Masters of America, Smith College, Dance Unlimited, and New England Ballet.  Diana teaches creative movement classes at The Montessori School of Madison, serves on the boards of Connecticut Dance Alliance and New England Ballet Company, served as the chairperson for the Shoreline Arts Alliance Dance Scholarship Committee for nine years and is a member of the National Dance Education Organization. Five years ago Diana developed a dance outreach program for 4thgraders at Calvin Leete Elementary School in Guilford and is a 2012 Guilford Fund for Education Grant recipient for using dance to teach geometry to 2ndgraders.  Diana combines her knowledge of dance and exercise science to publish her blog, thehealthydancer.blogspot.com, and is the owner of The Healthy Dancer, LLC which educates dance educators, dancers and parents across the country about healthy dance practices through workshops, lectures and teaching.
