Welcome to 2014 on the Starship Dance Studio Blog! This time around in Behind the Barre, we’re featuring Michaela Feinberg. She’s currently a junior and if you saw Magic Toyshop this year, she did a wonderful job as the Russian Princess! Here Michaela shares her experience, a year after a difficult injury! Don’t be afraid to ask your teachers for advice when you feel you may have an ailment! Thanks for sharing, Michaela!
“Just over a year ago I pulled my hamstring during the final performance of Magic Toyshop. It was a pretty severe injury and I learned that the healing process would be very long. During the month I couldn’t dance, I observed classes, went to physical therapy, and did exercises on my own. I also helped out with a level 2/3 class which was a really great experience. It was a much different experience than taking a dance class and it taught me so much. This injury was very frustrating at times but getting through it taught me a lot about perseverance and patience. I had to work really hard to get back to my prior fitness level but in the end I was able to become a stronger dancer.”
Here she is in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Magic Toyshop as a youngster, as well as this past year’s Magic Toyshop!
