The Magic Toy Shop
Check out this message from Sean Suozzi below! If you don’t remember Sean, he studied with Joyce here at Starship and danced in The Magic Toyshop and A Midsummer Night’s Dream along with many other productions. He now is a professional dancer with New York City Ballet.

I’m writing to ask for some help…it’s for two of my dearest friends Ellen Bar and Jody Lee Lipes. Ellen and I danced together for years at NYCB and before she retired, we conceived and produced the film NY Export: Opus Jazz (www.opusjazz.com) together. Jody (now Ellen’s husband…yes Jody is a man) was the director and cinematographer of our film. Anyway, Ellen is now the Director of New Media at NYCB and Jody is still making a living as a Director (Girls) and Cinematographer (Afterschool, Tiny Furniture, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Picasso Baby).Ellen and Jody have been working on a documentary for almost a year now about the creation of a new work at NYCB. The film is completely observational (no interviews/talking heads) and follows the up-and-coming choreographer Justin Peck (also a soloist with NYCB) as he makes his second work for the company…the 422nd ballet to be commissioned by Peter Martins since he took over as Ballet Master in Chief. The film is called Ballet 422.Anyway, they have just launched a crowdfunding campaign on Hatchfund (KickStarter for non-profits) to raise money to finish the film. There are only 22 days left for them to reach their $20,000 goal, and if they don’t reach it, they won’t get anyone’s contributions. I’m not asking any of you to give a lot….even a $5 – $10 donation can be a big help with these sort of campaigns. So please give whatever you can, and if you can’t, let your friends know about this project (just forward this email) and share their page on some or all of your social media.

I really believe in these guys and I think this film is going to be great… so check out the page (link is below) and watch the teaser.

Here’s Sean with our lovely Joyce!
